Amy+Fred Perry collaboration
Amy Winehouse, 26, is said to be collaborating with British label Fred Perry for his next collection!
“Amy has been wearing Fred Perry for years, so we were aware she was a genuine fan of the brand,” said Richard Martin, Fred Perry’s marketing director, of the initial pursuit of Winehouse for the design gig. “Amy has a unique sense of style that reflects the brand’s own historical reference points.”
Fred Perry started designing almost 60 years ago with a sportswear collection. The clothes look similar to what Winehouse has worn in the last few years, so this should be very interesting to see how their audience will respond when all said and done.
Perry will feature 17-pieces that include mostly black and pinks. Their’s going to be tiny pencil skirts, capri pants, a mini dress, and polo shirts. Everything will wholesale between $32 and $150 and will go on for a year that will be sold in Fred Perry boutiques as well as a few wholesalers globally.
Winehouse was the inspiration behind Karl Lagerfeld’s December 2007 Chanel show (“She’s a style icon,” Lagerfeld said at the time)“ . Even though whenever she is in press it seems to be for drug issues etc., Fred Perry and his team was happy with her hands-on approach to the design process.
“We had three major design meetings where she was closely involved in product style selection and the application of fabric, color and styling details,” said Martin. He added that pieces such as gingham shirts and the Heritage jacket, another label classic, are the foundation of the lineup. On those items, “Amy gave crucial input on proportion, color and fit,” Martin said. “The range clearly has Amy’s handwriting.”
